Brides often ask us what is in fashion when it comes to wedding flowers. You may not think that fashion has much to do with flowers but there are definite trends that we see every year. Popular colours are often driven by the fashion in bridesmaids’ dresses whereas style often complements the bridal gown detailing.
In 2006 chocolate brown was in demand teamed with cream and hints of gold. 2007 was the year of dusky pink and cream often with a vintage feel of lace and pearls accentuating the detail seen on wedding dresses. Brides in 2008 wanted a natural cottage garden or wild flower look with colours that complemented the season. One bride even asked us for weeds!
Last year saw brides being bold by choosing purple in all its shades from rich aubergines and plums to soft lavenders and lilacs. This year we are seeing brides return to pastel shades with green being particularly popular. We are teaming it with soft pinks to give a delicate, romantic look. Turquoise is another popular colour this year and combining green with white gives a crisp, classic combination to compliment this.

As well as the perennially popular roses, brides are choosing flowers that are in season when they are getting married. Tulips, anemones and ranunculus are popular for early spring, sweet peas and peonies for late spring and early summer and dahlias and gladioli for mid to late summer.
Regardless of these trends the most important thing is that you have what you want. After all, it is your day and you may want to do something more personal or unusual. Some designs are classic wedding arrangements. White or ivory flowers with green foliage are a traditional combination that never goes out of fashion and red roses are the time-honoured romantic flower, so if you are not sure what to choose, you can’t go wrong with one of these.
If none of these ideas are what you are looking for, we will be happy to help you to create exactly the theme you want. Schedule a free, no obligation consultation today.
